A Snowy Birthday Staycation Surprise

A Guide to Your Davidson Staycation at The Cedars

When we decided to open The Cedars, it was in large part because we believed the town of Davidson to be a hidden gem. But with all the publicity surrounding the opening of Kindred on Main Street, which some are even referring to as “restaurant row,” Davidson is no longer hidden… but still definitely a gem! Since opening our doors, we’ve had guests from all over – from Frankfurt, Germany to Alaska! But some of our favorite guests — only kidding, all of our guests are our favorites! — are locals… or staycationers, if you will.

For instance, take Barrow and Melissa, a sweet couple from Salisbury, NC just a quick 45-minute drive from The Cedars. Barrow, who works at an architecture firm in Davidson, was celebrating his 40th birthday, and Melissa wanted to make sure it was a birthday to remember. Barrow recently relocated from Savannah, GA — a charming Southern town in its own right — and the couple enjoys checking out new places to stay and eat. Melissa decided a Staycation at The Cedars, featuring a night out in Davidson, would be the perfect way to mark Barrow’s big day. She and I hatched a plan for the surprise evening and the couple’s Staycation adventure began.

Barrow’s lone instructions were to be ready for dinner and an evening out at 5 pm. Melissa packed a bag forStaycationers Barrow so he could make it to work on time the next morning. As Melissa and Barrow arrived for a relaxing birthday night away amidst a rare Southern snowfall, I joked with the couple I had even supplied special weather for their special February evening. The couple wandered down to Main Street where they enjoyed their evening and what I’m sure was a delicious dinner at one of our many local restaurants.

The next morning, their culinary adventure continued. Sue is always careful to personalize her breakfast menu for our guests, so when Melissa mentioned Barrow’s favorite breakfast is biscuits and gravy, Chef Sue whipped up her finest the next morning. She even packed some in a container for the couple to take to go… she said it was her birthday gift to Barrow, but I promise everyone benefited (including me!).

Birthday biscuits in hand, the couple concluded their Staycation at The Cedars, with Barrow reluctantly returning to his office just a few blocks away. On the way out, Melissa lingered in our  home library, dropping not-so-subtle hints about a birthday Staycation of her own in January. Just a friendly reminder to give us a call, Barrow… we’ll have a glass of bubbly waiting for you!

Until next time … we invite you to come as guests and leave as friends.
