INNside Scoop: Get to Know Tom and Sue

In our short time as innkeepers we have already created many memories with our guests. We enjoy our morning conversations during breakfast, learning bits and pieces (and sometimes many details!) about those gathered at our table. It has been fun to swap stories and share laughter over an evening glass of wine on the porch. As you prepare (or contemplate!) a visit under our roof, we thought we’d share a few details about each of us. We’d love to hear your answers to some of these questions as well!

The Innkeepers Tom and Sue

The INNside Scoop on Sue:

Would you rather…

Have coffee or tea? Coffee

Wake up early or stay up late? Wake up early

Enjoy an afternoon bike ride or an afternoon siesta? Siesta

Wash dishes or weed the garden? Wash dishes

Read a great book or watch the movie? This is a tough one. It depends on the day and my mood. If I’m feeling social, it’s a movie; if I’m more into being alone, it’s a book.

Eat eggs or pancakes? Eggs, sunny side up

Have a home with a great backyard or a great living room? Great backyard

Lose your sense of taste and smell or lose your ability to distinguish colors? I can let go of color at this point because I have colors stored in my memory. I have to smell and taste to cook! If I lose those, I’ll have to hang up my whisk!

Be 10 minutes late or be 20 minutes early for everything? Oh, definitely 20 minutes early! For me, not early equals late.

What is one thing you didn’t know before opening a bed and breakfast? I didn’t know how very much I’d enjoy our guests and what lovely surprises they are. We have met the most fascinating people!

What is your least favorite chore? Taking out the trash.

What is your favorite chore? Cooking, of course!

What does Tom do that you could never do? Tom pays close attention to the landscaping. If it doesn’t holler at me, I don’t feed it. That’s why plants cringe when I’m in charge of them.

Where is your favorite place to eat in town? This changes almost daily and changes with the experience as much as with the food. If I’m with Tom for a meal, it’s my favorite place to be.

What is your favorite thing to do in Davidson? Come home to it.

The INNside Scoop on Tom:

Would you rather…

Have coffee or tea? Coffee

Wake up early or stay up late? Wake up early, though neither is very appealing!

Enjoy an afternoon bike ride or an afternoon siesta? Bike ride; although today I needed a nap!

Wash dishes or weed the garden? Weed the garden

Read a great book or watch the movie? Enjoy a great book

Eat eggs or pancakes? Pancakes — I have a sweet tooth!

Have a home with a great backyard or a great living room? Great backyard

Lose your sense of taste and smell or lose your ability to distinguish colors? Lose my senses of taste and smell — to an alarming degree, I already have!

Be 10 minutes late or be 20 minutes early for everything? Be 20 minutes early

What is one thing you didn’t know before opening a bed and breakfast? I did not know how much time it would take.

What is your least favorite chore? Cleaning the rooms.

What is your favorite chore? Serving the guests their breakfast!

What does Sue do that you could never do? I could never fix breakfasts in the organized, everything is ready at the right moment the way Sue does.

Where is your favorite place to eat in town? It’s a little dangerous to say what my favorite place to eat in town is. There are several places that I really like. I enjoyed Il Bosco when we ate there recently. I believe it may not be getting the patronage it deserves because of the publicity being generated by Mestizo and Kindred.

What is your favorite thing to do in Davidson? My favorite activity is to sit in one the rockers on our front porch with Sue and have a drink in the late afternoon. I like walking into town when the weather is nice and eating outside at one of the restaurants. I like to ride and walk the greenway.

Until next time … we invite you to come as guests and leave as friends.
